President’s Letter February 2008 Invitations for the annual Kaligrafos Valentine’s Party have arrived. A first glance at the envelope, addressed with gorgeous copperplate by Marie Adamson, Donna Sabolovic, and Jeri Wright made me take a breath. Breaking the seal was a magical moment many of us put off for the sheer pleasure of holding it in our hands. But the contents made the magic complete…a treasure of a card letterpressed by Sherry Barber on Jeri Wright’s lovely antiqued paper. The tone has definitely been set for the upcoming Valentine Social. While everyone is urged to be creative and make a card to exchange, that is not a prerequisite for joining the fun. Card or not, come and enjoy the party.
Kaligrafos kicked off the new year at our January meeting with a well researched program on Layout & Design presented by Cristi Campo and her great team: Brenda Briscoe, Paula Van Wagoner and Grace Ann Vanderpool. A year ago I was asking what the initials SWCC stood for… that would be South West Calligraphy Conference. The last weekend in January, Kaligrafos participated in SWCC. President, Kathy Setina, and Workshop Chairman, Linda Jones attended along with our Secretary Louise Weber. This is an annual meeting of 10 regional guilds to share ideas and concerns and camaraderie. We didn’t have far to travel as our neighboring guild, Fort Worth Calligraphy Guild, was the host this year. They showed us a great time and sent us home inspired by so many ideas and new friends. Next year, 2009, the conference will be held in Dallas and our entire guild will be challenged to show our best hosting skills and world famous Dallas hospitality.
I am looking forward to sharing some Valentine’s fun and treats with you on February 9th at the home of Sherry Barber. Don’t forget to RSVP. Kathy Setina
